21000 lettres conservées (presque autant ont été perdues), 1200 correspondants dans l'Europe entière (dont Frédéric II et Catherine II). La correspondance de Voltaire a été éditée en 107 volumes par Théodore Besterman (1904-1976), le fondateur de la Voltaire Foundation.
